Top 5 Masks That Curb Your Hormonal and Stress-Induced Acne

7 Shoe Trends Everyone is Wearing This Season
July 15, 2019

Ahhh yes, it’s that dreaded time of year again when the stress of final exams, the lack of sleep, and the changing weather start taking a toll on my body, and thus, my skin. Since I was 15, the infamous year where I finally hit puberty, I’ve been struggling with both hormonal and stress-induced acne. Luckily, through trial and error, I have identified the top 5 masks that target, prevent, and clear breakouts. Whether you’re struggling with cystic acne, surface level pimples, or whiteheads and blackheads, these masks will help you achieve that clear, smooth skin texture you’ve always dreamed of.

Sunday Riley Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask ($55)

Sold at both Sephora and Ulta, this green sulfur-based mask penetrates pores deeply while drying and clearing up any existing acne. Sulfur tends to be gentler than other acne-fighting agents like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, but that doesn’t mean it’s not equally effective. It helps dry out surface level blemishes and absorbs any excess oil that contributes to the creation of breakouts, and better yet, it dries and removes any excess dead skin cells that clog your pores.

Renée Rouleau Rapid Response Detox Mask ($63.50)

I’ve been using this mask for about four years now, and I swear by it. This is a fast-acting mask for acne and sensitive skin to clear hormonal blemishes and bumps while preventing new ones from appearing. I use this mask about a week before my period, and I swear it prevents the hormone-induced cysts that I used to aggressively struggle with. For dreaded cystic pimples you may already have, it shrinks the blemish’s life by half, meaning you’ll have the pimple for half as long as you typically would have.

SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Mask ($55)

Believe it or not, this was the first mask I ever tried. Recommended by my dermatologist in 2014, this non-drying mask is still one of my esteemed go-to’s in curing my current break outs, getting rid of black heads, and smoothing my skin’s texture. This mask is made up of natural clays and botanicals from the earth that unclog pores, balance skin’s oil production, and remove impurities.

Caudalie Instant Detox Mask ($39)

This easy-to-use mask only requires you to wear it for 5-10 minutes, so for those of you who are always on the go, this product is perfect for you. I use this mask biweekly and its claim to be “rehab for your skin” definitely holds true: this mask acts like a vacuum to the pores and draws out excess oil and toxins, combats congestion, and always reveals luminous skin.

Dr Jart+ Clear Skin Lover Rubber Mask ($12)

This is the sole one-time use mask I swear by in curbing hormonal and stress induced breakouts. After removing the mask, I always notice an instant difference in the inflammation and redness level of my current blemishes. I especially love to use this before I go to sleep so I can really let the ampoule sink into my skin over night!

Happy masking!
